Fagus sylvatica 'Purple Fountain'

£96.99
Description: The Purple Fountain Beech has a naturally upright single central trunk, and side branches that cascade down to the ground. It grows tall but slender, making it perfect for smaller spaces and small gardens. The serrated, pointy, glossy burgundy leaves are highly ornamental, and turn an outstanding coppery-bronze in autumn. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant. The smooth silver bark is extremely showy and adds significant winter interest.

History: Found in the 1960s in Holland as a seedling of "Purpurea Pendula". Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1975.

Fagus Growing Tips: They will grow in most soils provided they are not waterlogged, and will tolerate most sites except coastal. They prefer full sun or partial shade.
