Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Tricolor' 12L

£89.99
Also known as Roseomarginata, is a rounded to spreading, deciduous tree bearing elliptic to ovate, wavy-margined variegated leaves. Foliage typically emerges in spring as purple with pink margins, changes to dark bronze-green with pale pink (later white) margins in summer and finally turns bronze-gold in fall. Inconspicuous yellow-green flowers in spring are followed by spiny, capsule like fruit in autumn.

History:
This variety is said to have come to notice almost simultaneously in France and Holland, and to have been first propagated in quantity by Transon’s nursery, Orleans, who first exhibited it in 1885. A similar or perhaps identical beech was exhibited by Messrs Cripps in 1888 as F.s.roseomarginata.

Fagus Growing Tips:
They will grow in most soils provided they are not waterlogged, and will tolerate most sites except coastal. They prefer full sun or partial shade.
