Apple (Malus) Lord Derby 12L
£41.99
Lord Derby is a traditional, well known English cooking apple. Large, firm, attractive, green fruit with a distinctive ribbed angular shape. Flesh is rather coarse-textured, somewhat dry but an excellent quality cooker for pies. Best cooked early when its green for a sharp taste. Grown on a small scale commercially in the UK and also a useful garden variety. A healthy tree being resistant to scab, mildew and canker!
History: Raised by nurseryman B.W. Witham, Stockport, Cheshire, England in 1862. Believed to be a Catshead seedling.
