Almost thorn-free, the foliage is dark green with large leaves which turn shades of crimson and red in autumn. Clusters of white flowers appear in late spring which are followed by ornamental, edible, red fruit (not gold!) which are nearly as large as crab apples. As well as attracting wildlife to your garden, the edible red fruits can be made into preserves or syrup. This hardy tree can survive in costal sites as well as in milder conditions, and will benefit from occasional pruning.

Will tolerate a wide range of soils as long as they are well-drained, urban pollution and coastal conditions. Extremley hardy and ideal for the smaller garden. Prefer full sun or partial shade.
